The other day, while coming back to the studio from a doctors appointment, I was driving down the beltline listening to my favorite station.
The trees have started to bloom, so there was lots of colorful scenery on a bright clear sunny afternoon.
I heard the end of KC & The Sunshine Bands “Please Don’t Go” followed by a listener saying how much FUN tuning in to KIX is, and “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison came on. A song I have played on the radio 1,000’s of times. I reached out to crank up the volume, and found myself singing the “Sha-La-La’s” out loud, windows down, and slightly speeding.
For that 3 minutes, I got to experience what she had said just before those first 4 familiar guitar notes.
I wasn’t the DJ or Program Director, it was simply about how much FUN it is listening to KIX.
For that single moment, the beauty of disappearing into the pure magic of a great song on the radio, nothing else mattered. The bills that needed to be paid, the errands that needed to be run, the assignments that needed to be completed before the deadline.
I hope everyone who tunes in gets to feel this way now and again. The one good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.
